South Korea Launches Reward Tip Line for Illegal World Cup Betting

The South Korean Gambling Control Commission has introduced a financial incentive program to identify and block unauthorized online betting platforms. The enforcement campaign operates from 8 June to 31 July 2026 ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

Campaign Mechanics and Rewards

Residents and industry representatives can submit reports through a dedicated monitoring centre website or a telephone service. Each notification that results in a site block earns a KRW 10,000 ($6.50) reward. Submissions containing operator bank account details receive KRW 50,000. Claimants must provide login credentials and screenshots documenting bets, deposits, or withdrawals. Monthly payouts are limited to KRW 600,000 per individual, with disbursements scheduled between late September and early October for blocks completed by the end of August.

The commission will coordinate site removals with the National Police Agency and the Korea Communications Standards Commission while expanding oversight cooperation with licensed gambling providers. Chairman Choi Byung‑hwan stated that the initiative aims to keep the tournament a "healthy sports festival" and requested public involvement to limit unauthorized betting expansion.

South Africa, the Netherlands, and Malta have implemented similar monitoring measures, noting that fraudulent platforms frequently replicate the branding of regulated bookmakers.
